At least they didn't try to restore a fresco.

In the right deck, this guy is nice. He can trigger battalion on turn 3. And he flies. Oh yes, he triggers battalion on turn 3. Play him in aggressive boros humans. You won't regret it.
Oh, did I mention curse of stalked prey ?

Skyknight Legionnaire, you're trying to seduce me...

Really, Wizards, I appreciate your attempt to woo me with pretty women, but the old art showed the actual steed flying through the city, not a person on an unspecified mount with a generic background.
4/5 because the actual mechanics are sweet.

A very welcome reprint!
Sadly, the art doesn't quite cut it...

Perhaps they thought the old art didn't emphasize the 'human' creature type enough? If that's the case, they definitely overcompensated. I thought I read somewhere that they saved the "very zoomed in" art for truly big creatures to give a sense of it looming over you - but this is a 2/2 and didn't need to fill so much of the frame. The cool background of columns of soldiers marching through the city streets has been abandoned. Instead we have a vague representation of wings and a tail that are far too subtly colored - unless you look at it carefully, it just looks like an orangey corona.
And nobody else has mentioned it, but the flavortext is quite bland compared to the original, too.

Skyknight legionnaire is my favorite card. As in, the favorite. Always #1 on my list, has always been #1 on my list.
I love flying, love haste, and when put on a 2/2 body for 3 mana, it's just a great card. Like a shock that keeps kicking.
I have a single casual deck that I've been building for the better part of a decade, and one of the few cards I run multiples of is Skyknight. In many ways, you could say the entire deck is built around that card, and it has always been a cornerstone of its foundation. Even when they printed Chandra's phoenix, a 2/2 with flying and haste with a powerful extra ability, I found that Skyknights still performed better in my deck.
But, as the years have gone by, and my friend's decks have grown in strength to the point where I struggle just to remain a contender, I was looking towards the new Ravnica to provide my R/W deck was a much needed power boost.
If they were to print a strictly better Skyknight, even just something like a ... (see all)

I was so happy when I was it got reprinted...and then I saw the art. Wizards, don't fix what ain't broken, should've kept the old art.

@Purplerooster: And if you use War Falcon as your one-drop instead of Boros Elite, you get seven damage and all of it's evasive! Crack a Rally the Peasants on the forth turn, and suddenly you're dealing with a very dead opponent (assuming you swung with the Falcon turn two after playing the Skyjek).
