Yes, it is slightly behind the 2/2 standard but that's because it combines well with lure or even madcap skills. Give it death touch and it becomes a possible board wipe to some or all of your opponents creatures.
If this duel deck had 4 copies of vexing devil and hellrider it would be just plain cruel. You have to realize that these are rare, and duel decks usually supply only one of the specific rare because multiple would either be broken for the cost of the duel deck or it would not flow right with the mana curve and every thing. Besides, this card can kill a vexing devil and/or a hellrider if it just attacks or block it. Not saying they would block it unless absolutely necessary, or they are sure that their creature will not die from the block. This card could warrant removal, but it is likely that it will die after one use. That is unless you equip artifacts giving it indestructibility or additional blocks and extra toughness. Even an enchantment that prevents combat ... (see all)

The first thing Tibalt's deck wants to change is up the number of these, Hellrider, and Vexing Devil to 4. Either that, or it wants to try to work in Madness with that Flashback and use Lightning Axe. Probably it just wants to go all in Devils though :)

This card's awesome in the context of these Duel Decks because it's impossible for Sorin to block and kill it with 1/1 Spirit tokens.

I said this on a similar card elsewhere, but quietus spike works well on these abilities.
Basically turns this guy into an engulfing slagwurm, minus the healthgain.

This card can trade with 3 toughness creatures, and get rid of 1 toughness pests. In the meanwhile its smashing for 2 power which is not that bad for a 2 drop.
Great filler card until you find a more power rare to replace it with.

thing about this card is that, against your typical casual white or red deck, it'll off a 1 toughness first or doublestrike creature because whether or not a creature has abilities like that, it's checked after blocking is declared. trading a 2 cost creature for an average 2-3 cost first strike isn't too bad, once you take into account the graveyard manipulation in current standard. Once the block is declared, damage is dealt wether or not a creature has first strike. I like this in a deck with showstopper from dragonsmaze. What can I say. I'm sick like that. Good in a green/red with nightshade peddler. two great tastes that go great together. they're the chocolate and peanut butter of red/green standard.
