Incredible card in the right deck! If you're playing a deck based on fast board advantage and less hand advantage I would throw 4 of these in maybe even splash black in a sligh deck specifically for this and is also one of the best creature types in the game 5/5

Combo with Sign in Blood, 3 life for 3 cards sounds good to me. Vampire Nighthawk or even extorters could get that life back quickly.

@Ferlord: Yes, it would. You play the card, and THEN it resolves. By the time it resolves, it's on the stack, and no longer in your hand, so you have no cards in hand when you draw, triggering the Scrivener.

This should do nicely with Jace's Archivist and Zombie Infestation

"What happens if the first card that I draw is an instant, and I cast it before (if that's possible) drawing the second?
So I have an empty hand and Blood Scrivener in play. I draw my first card, a Lightning Bolt and cast it immediately.
Do I draw another two cards, since my hand is now empty again (and lose two life)? "
Rtschimp, the question is HOW are you drawing two cards. If you play divination, then you draw two cards from that one spell and cannot cast another spell while that resolves. If, however, you have a howling mine out, then yes you can cast the lightning bolt between the Mine draw and the normal draw step draw.
Now that I re-read this, I assume you meant this card's own ability? If so then, again, the answer is no. You cannot do anything mid-resolution of spells and abilities.

How is this not Orzhov? Its flavor text, art, and in a way ability seems to reflect the guild; willing to pay the price for power

honestly this little dude gets some serious work done for me its not hard getting the card advantage off of him especially ifyour running a high tempo deck that runs through its hands often

*Really* good with Dangerous Wager as you fill the condition and benefit from it. When you have no cards it's still a plain "Pay 1 life, Draw 3"
Burning Inquiry also becomes a cantrip, causing hand disruption for 1 mana and 1 life, while netting you card neutral.
Also, if used with Unholy Grotto and Gempalm Polluter you will draw a net 3 cards per turn while sucking life from the opponent (albeit it another 4 mana per turn.)
