What's the best planeswalker to cast when you have Doubling Season? I think it would be Jace, Architect of Thought. Activate -8, search their library for best spell and your library for another Jace, AoT, then repeat til your deck has no more Jace, and that's when you search for Nicol Bolas.

In summary, 2UU gets you 3-4 best spells from your opponent's deck which you can cast immediately, plus Nicol Bolas's ultimate (plus a Nicol Bolas sitting at 1 loyalty).

A lot of the prints in Modern Masters reminded me of a silly fungus deck I thought of a while back. I got to thinking, if I go ahead and build that deck, I should be on the lookout for a Doubling Season at my shop. Then I noticed that they printed it in Modern Masters too! Oh Wizards, you shouldn't have! <3

The Casual Player's wet dream.
This card has deserved to be put back into circulation for a long, long, LONG time now.

Doubling Season
Opalescence
Cackling Counterpart
You now have three doubling seasons, which are 5/5s.
Wake the Reflections
You now have 11 Doubling seasons... which are 5/5s.
Wake the Reflections again.
You now have 2,059 doubling seasons... still 5/5s.
Wake the Reflections one more time.
You now have over 6.6x10^619 Doubling Seasons. They are all most certainly 5/5s.

If you flashback the Cackling Counterpart...

It's nice that a few cards like this were printed in the Judge promo art. From what I can remember, I think Rift Bolt was as well.

Doubling Season is by no means the prefect card. If you were playing a burn deck, this would be a waste of 5 mana, whether you were playing Shrine of Burning Rage or not.

However, there are so few decks that CAN'T abuse this. This card gives your planeswalker's double their counters. AS IN, you could play Elspeth, Knight-Errant, get 8 counters instead of 4, and ultimate IMMEDIATELY. All we need is for her to be printed in the same set for that to happen... (:D). And remember, that's not even considering any Ghave, Forgotten Ancient or Vigor bulldookie.

This is one of the most dangerous spells in the game, hands down. If you see this in a deck, you KNOW they'll have something that abuses it.

And then Doubling Season was spoiled, and among Johnnies there was much rejoicing.

This art isnt new, it's the judge gift program art. Great reprint for casual players though. Just don't use it against your friend's infect deck

The only bad thing about Doubling Season is that it is inevitably auto-carded in the comments section of basically every other counter-producing or token-generating card in Gatherer, as if it is some sort of revolutionary combo no one has thought of before.
