love the 'new' art. Yeah, it's kind of a 'cheat' to call this new art, but I bet they count this one and Maelstrom Pulse in their '20-30 new arts'. I don't mind ;)

@ solarfall: cards like this and Staggershock make it VERY hard for your opponent to drop creatures the turn after. This also frees up your mana the turn after you suspend it to cast more spells. Lightning Bolt may be overall a more flexible card but Rift Bolt is very good.

The set that this was first released in, Time Spiral, was the 'nostalgia' set and had a lot of cards in it that were references to other cards that weren't strict reprints. This was their homage to Lightning Bolt. As for it compared to Bolt, for a long time Bolt was considered too powerful to reprint, that's why you have cards such as this and Shock, references to the best red card ever made without being as good or better. Also, there are advantages to suspending this, lorendorky says it pretty well in his comment. That being said, in a straight burn deck this is meant to be run alongside Bolt as another 3 damage for 1 mana spell.
On to the card, I much prefer this art to my Time Spiral ones and I'm looking forward to picking up some foil copies for my burn deck.

They should have printed Lightning Bolt. Not that this is bad though; If I was building a burn-heavy deck, I would probably include both this and Lightning Bolt.

As a new player there might be something I'm not seeing, but isn't this garbage compared to Lightning Bolt? It's either expensive or delayed, and at sorcery speed too.
