This is hideously powerful with Life from the Loam.

Sweet card. I built a black discard deck with this in it and Shrieking Affliction and The Rack as the win con. It works really well, and this card is great for when you draw land you don't need. With this in the grave, you can be pretty happy no matter what you draw.

I use this in a modern peasant deck. It's absolutely brutal. It usually allows me to discard the entire enemy's hand 2 or 3 turns after it hits the graveyard.

Also awesome with Yavimaya Elder and Treasure Hunt and any other card draw that hits a lot of lands. (As others have said, it's a life from the loam deck archtype as well!)

Forcing your opponent into topdeck mode (with or without you) is always powerful. Holding lands in hand to cause that discard of Batterskull, that extra land they got (and need), their creature or planeswalker they're still trying to reach; are all good.

Use deathrite to ramp yourself off of your lands or to eat flashback spells while steadily killing your opponent.
