Mistform Ultimus still has the Legendary thing going for it, as well as no need for paying for the Changeling ability. He does have a good EDH position (arguably not as the general mind).
What I do like about Changelings though is that they encourage players to explore a tribe via different colours. For example, you could run a White/Green Elf deck that uses this guy as aerial offence, or a White/Red Goblin deck that does similar things.
I've had great success with a Green/Black Rogue deck, since the Green Changelings give you a bit of staying power in multiplayer and adding green allows for some powerful combat tricks - it's better to get prowl via going OVER your opponent's creatures rather than around them!

Changelings have great flavor.
They are shapeshifters. They have every creature type.
I don't understand the problem.

It's worth noting that a changeling is, among other things, a:
Lurker Berserker Assembly-Worker
Coward Warrior
Dreadnought Juggernaut
Dryad Druid
Manticore Masticore
Cat Bat Rat
Scout Soldier
Tetravite Pentavite
Insect Horse Unicorn Pegasus (wait, that's a different kind of changeling)
Spellshaper Shapeshifter
Brushwagg Lammasu Phelddagrif
Mongoose Monger
Human Ooze (which actually exists otherwise!)
Treefolk Splinter
Fox Hound
Avatar Incarnation
Kraken Leviathan Serpent
Basilisk Cockatrice
And, of course, Ninja Pirate Zombie Construct.

@Totema: There are three changelings in this set, which is not even close to "just about every one". WotC want Modern Masters to be draftable, and the changelings aid in that. They enable tribal as a drafting strategy, especially for those tribes that otherwise wouldn't have a creature at common (dragons, for instance).

"I hate Changelings and love Mistform Ultimus"-almost every player ever with any respect for flavor. Changelings are the psionics of MTG -_-
"In another game sure, but....why?? HERE???"

I'm glad someone else thinks that psionics have no place in D&D.
I don't mind changelings though. I just think they wasted card slots in this set by printing just about every one.
