This is one of the cards that made Mirrodin block one of the most poorly designed blocks ever, if not THE worst. I'm talking from a designer's standpoint, of course. Mirrodin was basically waiting to see who drew the 4th shrapnel blast first. Along with Isochron Scepter, skullclamp, arcbound ravager and a few other design fails, Mirrodin sent players running for the hills in droves. I personally didn't return to magic until Ravnica.
Two mana for 5 instant speed damage in a set that rendered its drawback null and void. What else needs to be said.

Yeah, wasn't the idea of this card turning one of your artifacts into a bomb?
If so, did that guy try to chew that trinket or something?
Alternatively, the idea of a red mage being able to make any artifact (like that metal plate hat contraption)
explode just by... i don't know, snipping with his fingers, seems a bit overpowered.
There would have beeen a plethora of concepts for artwork that would have fitted better.
But i'll give it that: if there's something it does deliver that's true to this spell, it's the severe pain it causes.
Still, i could imagine plenty of better opportunities for a literal bloody mind blow as artwork choice.

Despite what a lot of people think when they go about trying to 'fix' bad cards, 5 damage is a very large number. It's not something that should be this easily cast.
