Cool art. Very tough to block. Good limited finisher/beater and possibly awesome in casual/multiplayer.
Note that he can protect you from air creatures as well, Good offence AND defence

This guy and Serra Angel are the uncommon staples of the ever-present core set limited archetype Blue/White Flyers. It also just totally shuts down the flyers mirror. Awesome card.

This is one of the best cards in blue Limited, which happens to be the most powerful color. It completely gives you dominance in the air, which essentially gives you the game. The only nonrare creatures that come even close are Serra Angel and Sengir Vampire. As for "How likely is this to win me the game," if you're drafting, it will win. It is a must-answer threat in a set that likes to protect its creatures.

Blue's answer to Sengir Vampire Serra Angel Shivan Dragon and the rest of the flying beaters in the set. And it gets to swing while tapping them down.

I've played using this card, and let me tell you, that activated ability IS worth the effort. You don't need to tap every flying creature they have. Just tap the ones that are the biggest threat. What's really great about the ability is that if you don't need to use it, the opponent most likely doesn't have a creature to block your flyers. In addition, the ability can be used to tap the creatures that the opponent would have attacked with, and this stall can get you enough lands to be able to use the ability more in a turn. Yes, your opponent may have more than one flyer, but so should you.

Awesome creature that'll allow you to control the air ways. Add some Zephyr Charge to tap down most anything.

I usually think to myself with cards that cost 5 or more mana, "How likely is this to win me the game?" This being 4/3 flying for 5 mana is great, and could well be game-winning, especially against G/R or aggro. However, I refuse to believe the activated ability is worth the effort. If you are playing someone who has flying creatures, they'll have more than one. Tapping only one would help if this card could be available earlier in the game, but by the fifth turn, with things like Delver of Secrets and Wingcrafter, if your opponent has fliers, there will most certainly be more than one. If the ability were 1 or 2 mana, this would be significantly better. That being said, a 4/3 flier for 5 mana is certainly nothing to scoff at.

lol, I came here with a question but Troutz basically answered it before I asked. It was a lot of "Whys?" about it's rarity, it's art seeming better than it's potential usefulness.
Fine, fine, card is OK all-around and even Good in Limited. And Blue is not doing it's job if the CMC is an issue, bc Blue should drive you to get to the late game.
I guess now my real question is: "Why is an Angel from heaven more or less on par with a cloud? With, basically, a wad of air?"
That...really...seems wrong. :( I want them to retire Serra Angel while she still has a bit of dignity and grace left in her. She's not aging as well as hoped, which is very sad :'( She LIVES, and has some uses...but we see her flying through the clouds, and we wonder why we aren't just using the clouds instead?....that's not good :/

One of the reasons this card is so good in Limited is it remains quite useful even after a Pacifism, Claustrophobia, or Sensory Deprivation has been cast on it. I just played a match where my opponent Claustrophia'ed my Air Servant, but I was still able to win the game by tapping down his Serra Angel and friends.
