I remember people being unhappy about the reprint of Merfolk of the Pearl Trident, preferring that it was this card.

Of course, now there's no Master of the Pearl Trident, so this card just seems out of place.

The revealing of the card may seem just like a flavor thing, but it can be used in conjunction with counter spells. If they reveal a Devout Invocation and you have a negate, you'll know to save it for that situation.

He has a more useful creature type than Grayscaled Gharial.
But to be honest I expected that gharial to get at least one Core Set reprint.
Instead this guy with a built-in Urza's Bauble effect showed up in M11, and lurks around yet again.
