Casting this turn 1 and getting a Dryad Arbor was good enough to get this banned from Modern. That alone should be a testament to its power.

This card is just utterly ridiculous. The Zenith cycle was generally pretty good, but this card is insane.
If 20 wants to be a good representative of MTG's best and iconic cards for each year, I think this is a good choice.

It can ramp you, increase your chances of getting what you need while reducing your chances of not, it can be anything you can currently cast now, and it can grab off color creatures in a color light way as long as they're part green. This means Sigarda is merely {5}{G} and only a 1-of in your deck; but Game 1 against that black deck can go much much smoother.
This is as close as you can get to an automatic 4-of in every green deck.

I think, mainly, I just didn't play enough Standard (read: zero) to appreciate this cards as much as everyone else. :P
As the years rolled on, it's harder to see 'what deserves the Vault' or not? :P
This is pretty good though. It's relatively excellent as Standard cards go. Kinda wished for a Miracle, but oh well...they came later, didn't they?
None of the FTV: 20 cards are rated 5.0 anymore. But this one has attracted the fewest number of Trolls. I believe that in "Like-Whoring" contest, Red and Green are considered 'more fun' and less hated, than Blue, Black, Artifacts, and White.
I.E., people prefer to lose to midrange STOMPfest decks with great mana, than long drawn out sieges of control. Well, the tournament Esper lists do tend to get pretty mean, but I think we all REALLY prefer games that go very long, and yet involve cards that are more Green- and Red- aligned by nature (read: Creatures and Boom Spells).

If this card costed one less mana, it would have broken the game in a fundamental way, much like a 0-mana sorcery that draws a card would have. There would have been absolutely no reason not to run four of in any deck that has at least four creatures. Including those Legacy decks with just Deathrite Shamans and Tarmogoyfs.
In other words, that one green mana is all that keeps this card from being absolutely superior to every green creature ever in every format, in a "strictly better" sense. Scary no?

If using this card to find and "X" mana cost card (like primordial Hydra) can you pay 5 manna on GSZ and apply 4 to the hydra?

@tweek87 you could search for primordial hydra with this, but the hydra's CMC is 2, so the search would cost you 3 and the hydra would enter the field as a 0/0 and die

...Okay, so it is not quite Channel, Fastbond, Oath, or Survival but they are banned in Legacy for a reason. Just like this is banned in Modern for a reason.
