It's interesting to note that the artwork on this card bears a more-than-coincidental similarity to the museum from the computer game 'Shivers'.

Why not just play this in a Blue or Black deck that doesn't run many creatures?

Damnation, Black Sun's Zenith, and Mutilate can keep you alive while, in combination with Breathstealer's Crypt, forcing your opponent to take damage in order to rebuild their board presence. Heck, you could even use cards like Vanishment and Spin into Myth to harass your opponent; Misinformation also becomes amusing. And don't get me started on Agonizing Memories; it's brutal enough on its own.

If you are especially sadistic, why not also play Time Spiral/Time Reversal and/or Wheel of Fortune/Reforge the Soul? You get a new hand of kill spells and countermagic, while they aren't left with much of a hand unless they sacrifice large amounts of life. For an added do... (see all)

Use this with Vedalken Mastermind to put the squeeze on everybody else while you may draw freely :).
Specters, Megrims, Liliana Vess, and the former two make for one wicked discard-burn engine.

This isn't such a bad card back in the day. Blue/black was a pretty useful color combination for reanimation decks and this card helped you get your fatties into the grave while hurting your opponent.

This card totally rocks with Tomorrow, azami's familiar as it says "instead of drawing you put a card in your hand" so your opponents will have the problem dealing with the crypt, but you don't!

One of my friends uses this with megrim. Draw a creature: pay 3 and keep it, or discard it and take 2 dmg.
