Finally, a scry card that is not overcosted.
It can basically be: "Your attacker gets a +1/+1 counter (or some other cool thing triggers), becomes nigh unblockable and nigh unkillable, and, oh, Scry 1 as well."

Protection is quite versatile and the Scry will always be relevant. Nice card.

Presumably where Elspeth's sword becomes a pole-arm.

Great Heroic enabler and might even make it into standard. Very good card.

Does anyone else think this art is awesome?
I'm going to order a foil, just to see how it looks. It shouldn't be too expensive, once Theros is released.
Also, great limited card, worked really well for me at the prerelease.

Oh gods, the flavor in this is beautiful. It's a prayer, a real prayer. - and it captures the flavor of prayer perfectly. By the act of praying - asking for help (Elspeth's lesson) - the hero by their own power (the triggered hero mechanic) gain power, and in that moment gain a brief respite from some danger, a moment to think. At the same time the fates are altered just a little bit - the universe changes through the act of prayer.
Nice job Wizards!

If somebody had shown me the art for this card before Theros was revealed and told me this was new art for Steelshaper's Gift, despite the fact that Theros is an Enchantment block, I'd have believed that story.

Spells like this are soooooooo good for protecting your creatures from removal... Especially those you have made monstrous or enchanted or built up +1/+1 counters on etc. It would be a shame to lose something you invested all that time/mana/card draw in only to lose it to something like Doom Blade or Griptide.
And you get to set up your next draw with hopefully something useful... Very nice card.

I cast this on my 2/2 creature giving it protection black. The opponent cast lighting strike (red) in response to kill the creature. Do I still get the scry? Was wondering because there is a period after the first part and was thinking the rest of card will try to resolve because there was a valid target when I cast it. Thanks.
