Funny, if you have just enough to pay for monstrosity, you have just enough to pay for another afterwords.

This seems like a great choice on turn four after you play Hammer of Purphoros.

Base stats are really solid, monstrosity is just gravy and it happens to be gravy that brings back your opponent into the lands range your deck is more comfortable with.

Solid base stats and wicked cool art. Looks like a lavaborne manticore.
The Monstrosity does what it says. Makes things monstrous. totally boning your opponent's late game plan.

You won't need those lands anyway.

Why isn't this a Manticore?

I just realized how bonkers this thing gets at my FNM today.
On the play:
T1: Stomping Ground(shocked), Elvish Mystic.
T2: Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, tap Mystic and Grounds, Burning-Tree Emissary into another BTE, using the GR to activate Shrine for Devotion to Red for Swallower.
T3: Using Shrine activation again w/ Mystic, Monstrosity, taking away the only three lands from the opposing player.

I get how ridiculously lucky the hand is, but it's still an absolutely crazy thing to see irl.

Hard to rate this card less than a 4 when it's a 4/5 for 4cmc in red. The Monstrosity bumped it another .5, but haste would've been so much more appreciated. Still, a copy for my cube isn't unreasonable.

At Stone Rain rates {2}{R}, blowing up three lands should cost {9} mana, ish. or {6}{R}{R}{R}, which could be turned into {3}{R}{R}{R}{R} and still sound reasonable. {5}{R}{R} isn't much of a discount, it's pretty much Violent Ultimatum splash-washed. OK, so ability is just normal-fair.

But that is still a creature that comes with a great Monstrous activation :D

Would probably prefer it if it was two lands and {3}{R}{R}, but this is better for multiplayer.
