I just have to thump it down a little. Guys, they're only +1/+1 counters!
Step 1: have Cradle of Vitality on the battlefield. Step 2: gain life. Step 3: have a couple of soon-to-come nasty critters on the battlefield. Step 4: Have a shitload of mana available for the +1/+1 counters to really come down hard and have an impact on the table. Step 5: Smirk, attack and be overly confident that you can repeat your trick the next turn. Step 6: become a threat and have the loudmouth of the table shouting "TARGET BOY!" at you until Cradle of Vitality has been hastily Returned to Dust.
A good card but worth a rating of 4.8? Cuckoo!

Not as good as you might think with Oloro. What cradle wants is big life swings, not incremental lifegain.
Disciple of Griselbrand or Filigree Angel from the same deck are much better combos. The disciple lets you transfer a doomed creature's stats onto another guy. Even if your creatures die, the total P/T on your side of the board never goes down.

This is nice to pair up with Doomgape. As you sacrifice creatures and gain life, you gain stronger creatures, so you gain more life, so you gain stronger creatures, so you gain more life...

Divinity of Pride/Vampire Nighthawk tend to get gigantic in my W/B life-gain deck with this. Add Rhox Faithmender for added effect (I do).
