This guy is just an example of a really good utility creature with multiple strategies available to it.
Abilities that don't cost mana make me happy.

Yes, this guy is very good. Being able to make any number of your creatures die at any time is incredibly useful, even if the ability itself isn't any good (and controlling your next card is rather handy).
Someone wipes the board? Get a bit of last-ditch use out of your army.
Control Magic aimed your creature? If you can't have it, nobody will.
Turn a Traitorous Blood into something a little more permanent.
Commander gets hit with a Pacifism? Back to the command zone!
Infinite recursion combo (Karmic Guide and Reveillark)? Infinite scry is like having every draw replaced by Demonic Tutor!
He's not for every deck, but this is the kind of card that just keeps surprising you with its uses.

I'm never been a fan of cards that expect your other creatures to die at some point for them to be worthwhile. Either my creatures are gonna die and they're gonna do something all by themselves, or they better not be dying much at all!

Is this card really the powerhouse its rating implies? Maybe I just lack imagination, but I feel pike it should be lower.

Melira's right hand man. Get Kitchen Finks or a Murderous Redcap on the field with them and you take the game. He also Birthing Pods perfectly into Melira herself if you happen to draw more than one.
