This is confusing to me. Are people comparing this to Murder because they're both commons? My first thought was "Oh, hey, it's a thrice-nerfed Hero's Downfall that came out LAST SET. This will see competitive play in some Pauper's or as a boomark, I guess..."
Why does Wizards have to print outright inferior commons? I mean, would BB have been a bad cost? And some other tacked on ability like "Its controller loses two life" or "Draw a card "?

Because black EDH kill decks can never have enough cheap spot removal.

Because draft and sealed events exist, and cards are crafted for the limited enviornment of their set. Asking "Why are there strictly worse commons?" is like asking "Why isn't Deadbridge Goliath a common?"
This card was created to highlight four things: First: Theros block is a very "Sit and build up a giant" limited environment, and often several turns will go by with the opponent's giant creature and your giant creature staying untapped. Second: Inspired is a new ability that creates a "Tapped Vs Untapped Matters" aspect for the environment. There need to exist cards to highlight components of the set, so new players can get what it's about from a single booster. Third: Common Removal has been getting weaker over time as creatures are trying to mat... (see all)

@purplerooster then use this on your turn before they ever had a chance to attack... This card's uses will become quite apparent.
All cards would be made better if they were instants, but the concept of a sorcery is a vitally basic part of magic; not everything can be an instant.
Besides, a kill spell is a kill spell. As long as your target dies, it shouldn't even be a big deal.
