This card is bad (in two-player Standard). When they have eight lands and no planeswalkers and have no removal spell, this guy is a disappointing 3/3. When they have an Elspeth that is pretty much winning them the game, this guy doesn't help either.

Compare to Acidic Slime. You can use this in multiplayer by targeting the person without the thing you want to blow up so that they'll agree to not pay the tribute. Even still, I like a 2/2 deathtouch more than a 3/3 in multiplayer, since dissuading big creatures from attacking you is important.

So either you get a 6/6 for 5 (which, at least for green, is only a little above the curve) or you get a 3/3 and a Bramblecrush for 5. Decent, I guess.

As with most of the tributes, it's easy predict what this one will get on a case-by-case basis. In this case, you always always always get a vanilla 5/5 for 5.

So with Nessian Demolok you'll end up with a vanilla 6/6 for 5 most of the time--which in Limited and for an uncommon really isn't that bad. Outside of Limited though, as if it needs to be said, this won't be seeing any play. On the outside chance your opponent has lots of extra land (unlikely) you'll end up with a 3/3 instead. But I think it's safe to assume this is going to be a 6/6 and for that it's fine in draft. Still, kind of sad that, as already mentioned, you can generally tell what the opponent will pick before the game has even begun.

Make things harder for your opponent with Where Ancients Tread. It's not the best combo in the world, but it certainly makes for interesting politics.

Would work great in a deck dedicated to land destruction. By the time you get him out your opponent will ideally value the lands they still have and will have to give you an above the curve creature to finish the job off.

At the FNM drafts that my store does most people take the ETB over paying tribute unless they're in a bad situation or have a kill spell ready. they'd rather loose a land than deal w/ a 6/6.
