This isn't 2.3 tier quality. This is a defender who's always on curve, then an attacker when you want it to be. A 2/2 on T2, a 3/3 on T3, a 4/4 on T4... and the moment you feel that you don't need your 5/5 or 6/6 to improve, it can become a strong offensive presence. And if your opponent killspells it, well, that's a kill spell that they've spent on something as low-investment as a 1/1 for . It's win-win!

Ahh but he's so much fun in limited. This little guy has a guaranteed slot in my cube.

Jace gets clocks? I guess. I don't really get it.

As one of Jace's only two artifact creatures (the other being an animated Dread Statuary), this guy will play an important role against Vraska's deck.
Not only can he dodge Grisly Spectacle, but his artifact typing also allows him to block creatures which have been given Intimidate by Vraska's Shadow Alley Denizen. Additionally, he's another excellent one-drop for Jace's beatdown strategy, and can even grow as the game goes on.
Since you'll likely spend a turn or two sitting on counterspell mana, remember that you can leave this guy untapped, block with him, and then tap him to use that extra mana to buff him before combat damage is even dealt. That should help you cut your losses if the Vraska player decides not to play anything worth countering.
I always liked the flavour of this little guy, and it's great to see him earn his first reprint. Good going Wizards.

I like saying "Before the beginning of my turn, I'll crank Chronomaton". Other people I play with have even started saying it, it's awesome.
