The only value this card has is the amusement of having an identical name to its type. It would be nice if it actually did something while it was sitting there being untargetable, but all it seems capable of is wasting your precious mana on a helpless monster. If your opponent has some sort of anger issues or neurosis that drives him into an unstoppable rage against anything crablike, all he has to do is wait til next turn for the Shroud to be gone and you to be sick of blowing Us on the thing. What's the point?

There's finally a use for this card with Worship. If you can use its ability, the only thing you will fear is life loss not called damage and board clearers. Thus, I suggest you pair it with something indestructible, like Darksteel Myr.

Remember that Shroud wasn't a thing when this card was published; Wizards overestimated how much it would be worth.

Also, remember that its ability is slightly more powerful than it seems -- despite the high cost, if your opponent targets it with a card and you use its ability, that's a +1 for you. Because most players will be unwilling to risk that, its ability is often just as good as Shroud. The blue mana is usually a bigger problem than the fact that it taps itself and stays tapped.

It's still a terrible card, mind, but that's mostly because it's 5 mana for a 3/3. If its ability was on a creature with a non-ridiculous casting cost, it'd be great.

As it is already a mediocre creature, it might be a little pointless, but I think that Second Wind would go together quite well with this guy. It can give itself shroud, and thus naturally protect itself from targeted removal, making it less of a risk in terms of card advantage to play an aura on it, and Second Wind can untap it right after it makes use of its ability and on its 'submerged' turn, as the aura untaps as normal. Of course, there are much better targets for the enchantment, among them Deep Spawn, this card's larger cousin, so it's quite a weak combo overall.

Not a terrible card. In earlier magic creatures were allot less powerful. Can be enchanted without sweating a 2 for 1. Though they do get to slow it down... and if they blast in response to your enchantment it will fizzle.. Still not the worst card in the world.
