It's Instant, so you can play it after blocking has been decleared. Or on another player's turn.

It would be funny if trample would work if you're using it to aid your blocking. ex- I attack you. You assign blockers and cast stampede. The extra damage goes back to me. lol.

Decent in two headed giant or for multiplayer shenanigans, most effects like this (overrun, etc.) apply only to the caster's creatures.

Plus, it's instant, so there's that.
