SquirePath - No you cannot. Creatures do not exist in the graveyard, creature CARDS do. Creatures can only be targeted on the battlefield, and by then it would be too late.

This can be better than a Counterspell in some cases, but Vines of Vastwood might be the better option. If your deck is creature-heavy enough to warrant playing this card over Counterspell, odds are you're playing with some green or can afford to.

Here's an interesting question:

A friend and I were playing together, and he was running a reanimate deck, obviously putting creatures in the graveyard, and I cast this on the creature he was trying to animate.

Is that legal? The rules don't say otherwise, just that it has to be a Creature...

It doesn't really matter anyway... It was mono-blue, and his target was Iona, Shield of Emeria...
