Earthquake-esque damage dealing.
Widespread land destruction.
Volcanoes in the art
Volcanoes in the name.
and the color is... blue?
This should have been red. That way it could be useful in mirror matches back in the day. Blue really didn't want to drop mana into X spells, and it's obviously waaay off color.

The first thing people think when they look at this card is "WHY IS THIS BLUE." but get past that, and it looks like a really, really powerful card to me

Would definitely make way more sense as a card. Blow mountains up, hurt your opponent! This was from a time when each color had to have dedicated enemy-color hosers.

I think it's blue because blue can also be attributed to an island. And some islands are volcanic. But that's a bit of a stretch. Yeah, *** it, this should have been red.
