I agree this thing is an unblockable 5 damage on the turn it's summoned... but what about your opponent's turn? Leaves you totally vulnerable, and is too expensive to really do much else.

5/5 with Haste that hugs Exalted effects. Might work there, even with it being red and 6 CMC.

This doesn't have to attack, so in a tight situation you can plop this on the table as a blocker that saves your skin. You cannot do that with Lava Axe.
