This bird should have given you a card upon going to the graveyard. It would have reflected the artwork (he's bringing you a scroll), and given this card the smallest purpose for existence.

More useful than most other cards, yes having two common tribals gives it fair chance to be boosted late game, otherwise an earlygame wall.
Hit with a Unstable Mutation if your worried about damage, or keep it around for your usual; Glorious anthem, Field marshal, Soulcatchers' Aerie etc.

Bird has Soulcatchers' Aerie and Soldier Benalish Commander, Captain of the Watch, Catapult Master, Daru Warchief, Field Marshal, Gempalm Avenger, etc...
Also he gets a double buff from the Jank-tastic Aven Brigadier.

Maybe it costs vs because "Bird" and "Soldier" have a lot of things that react with them as opposed to "Thopter".

An nonartifact-ornithopter with other creature types needs a mana cost of 1? weird...

I like this guy, both in art and function. There are a billion 1/1 creatures out there to block with flying, and he can always be boosted later.
Nothing incredible, but better than a generic 1/1 any day.

Ok, I'm getting tired of all this stricktly better/worse than storm crow junk, you are comparing apples to bannanas!
This guy himself is kinda good... if for any reason it shows us how must creature type matters.
