I use this in a deck with Aether Flash, it's very political but powerful and a lot of fun, yet just about slow enough to be fair and very vulnerable to enchantment removal. It's hated in duels but hugely popular in multiplayer, since there are always good stories to tell afterwards.

I don't know multiplayer, but this looks like a waste in any form of two-player Constructed. Hopefully most things you damage in that environment die anyway, so including an expensive and invested card just to make sure of this is of extremely limited use. In Limited, on the other hand, this is an excellent way to stall the ground - you should be very hesitant to attack an opponent with Death Pits if there's any possibility of being blocked, since it enables some extremely unbalanced trades. Of course, in theory this effect is symmetrical - but in practise, the person playing Death Pits knew he was doing so and had a chance to build a deck to take advantage of it, and the other guy didn't. Especially powerful in Limited with something like Prodigal Sorcerer, of course.

just use it in a token swarm deck. trumps using an ib halfhart. and with this one guy that returns 1 power creaturs to play rather than regenerating them, you have returnables but they dont, and even if you dont, your still just losing a 1/1 and they are probably losing 2/2 or higher because unless there playing swarm as well most creatures will be prity big when this hits.

and did i mention, red, the best swarm as well as burn to take further advantage and black for this card and the other one whos name leaves me i mentiond earlyer are both ally colores. so you can get lands that produce both easaly.
