Interesting that the printed text is a force-tap (so a creature with summoning sickness could still use this) and the oracle text contains the tap symbol (so a creature with summoning sickness could not use this.) That kind of messes with what the card actually says...

It didn't ever work the way aznxknightz described, but there was a brief issue with Fire Whip when it was released: due to the wording, the controller of the enchantment decided when to tap the creature (as it was an activation cost for the enchantment). This could be abused with things like Ray of Command to slap it on an opponent's creature and still have control of the tap ability, essentially making you into the Magic version of the guy who grabs someone's hand and repeatedly pushes it into their face while asking them why they keep hitting themselves.

If I recall correctly, they errata'd the wording within a few weeks of release to give the enchanted creature the tap ability, and every similar card since then has used the same wording.

It never worked that way, aznxknightz. The rules about wording around Weatherlight weren't the same as they are today.

You never can tap a tapped creature. Never had, never will.

This was great creature enchantment as the day this was released pinging was blue ability.

Back in the day, once this card hits the field the game is over. Why? Read the card again. The text reads: Tap Enchanted creature: ....
It didn't give the creature the tap ability and thus players were allowed to tap the tapped creature as many times as they liked and win the game like that. Of course it has been errated, now it's just a better power of fire.

It's better than Psionic Gift and deserves a higher ranking.

Mother of Runes hates this card.

1) Enchants a non-red creature, tap to deal one damage, Mother gives herself protection.
2) Sacrifice Fire Whip to deal one red damage, Mother dies.

Either way, she dies, owned. :D
