Well, the advantage of untapping lands in contrast to adding mana to your mana pool is, that you can untap special lands (like diamond valley, or lands enchanted with something, like squirrel nest or caustic tar, and you can untap lands of teammates. Still, three mana is a bit too much. Two mana would have been fine.

I used to use this with my Maze of Ith / Aladdin's Lamp deck. Stall out attackers with the maze, drop several wild growths on a forest for REAL untapping power. Then, animate the lamp. Sigh. Yeah. It was a casual deck.

Tolarian Academy. Of course, if your in any situation where your deck has an Academey odds are you aren't looking at Green for cards.
