I love the flavor text on this card, it points out what you mentioned, stygimoloch, I can remember seeing this card in Ice Age and wondering why would I use this card...

Pointless in Ice Age, but genius in Mirrodin. The best proof yet that a card's value is primarily defined by the metagame it inhabits.

Low cost, weak creature, but great effect against artifacts.

You want to activate that Soul Foundry? Too bad!

Deserves a reprint in the scars block.

5/5 because he's unavoidable in an Ouphe tribal deck.

An absolute monster in my Mirrodin/SoM cube. 4.5/5, because of the fragile body.

Lulzy meta-referential flavor text for the win.

One of the most under rated 1 for 1 creatures in Magic. It is almost main deck worthy in Legacy just because of the sheer number of activation heavy artifacts such as Candelabra. Though I will admit Pithing Needle is a more effective way to stop cards like that.
