I disagree. With Ring of Renewal, you draw two cards with no penalty if your hand is empty.

Now then, for something you might not know! Emmessi Tome is named after Mike Elliott, MTG set designer, whose initials are M.S.E., hence "Emmessi."

A very weak card. Costs way too much mana to play and use. Every color in magic has better draw power, even if its only one-time only. And the fact you have to discard...I'd rather use Book of Rass.

This might be the most underrated card I've found on the Gatherer. Jayemdae Tome is rated a bit above 3 on all of the versions that I checked, so that seems fairly accurate. Draw 2 discard 1 is definitely better than draw 1. You get to keep the better of the cards, which would probably be worth the 1 mana on its own. Yeah, you lose one of your cards, but its a card more than you'd have anyway: draw a card discard a card is a solid effect even without madness and cards that like being in your graveyard or for you to have more stuff in your graveyard. This card should be rated around that of the Tome, and imo even a little higher, as opposed to its 1.5 star rating now.
