This assumes that your opponent decides NOT to bother blocking your 5/4 with, i don't know, maybe the indestructable 5/5 lich.
This is only good when your opponent has multiple artifacts you need to destroy AND you can get the damage through to trigger the effect. And if you can get the damage through so easily then you might as well just kill your opponent.
In virtually every situation a lousy Shatter would have been a better choice than this.
