@kirin: last I saw, the creature went to the grave with all of those + and - counters on it if its toughness was reduced to zero. However, if it survives, THEN the counters cancel each other. So the ruling is still correct.

This guy and Arcbound Worker both are great targets for a Skullclamp. Nonetheless, I wouldn't mind Wizards to print more and better Modular creatures in the future, maybe in another Mirrodin / New Phyrexia set or even a Planechase product, so I could take these tiny guys out of my Commander deck. They're just not as fun to play as, say, Arcbound Crusher.

@Mata-nui3 is correct. The counters neutralize each other at the exact same time that the creature dies, so there was never a point that the creature was on the battlefield without the +1/+1 counters on it. So the ability remembers having them, even though they technically disappeared.

Decent value as Arcbounds go. Dig the art.

I've noticed on all of the modular cards that the Oracle is only showing the old ruling as of 9/25/06. The rules change for counters as of (I believe 10/1/09) state that if a creature has both +1/+1 counters and -1/-1 counters then as a state based effect the counters are removed until the smaller amount of either +1/+1 or -1/-1 remain as per ruling 704.5r. Which makes going up against Wither creatures very bad and counter acts the modular ability. I'd like to see the Oracle updated. My personal opinion about the modular cards is that they are nice, but way too expensive for what you are getting. However, I do have a modular deck that does rather well even though I don't have some of the more envious modular cards (equipment really helps).

modular is a keyword meant to transfer only +1/+1 counters. i don't see how it can't be done the way it is now.
