It's actually a decent remake of Safe Haven and most often more useful than Cold Storage.
But if you would only pay 1 or no mana for exiling your cards this artifact would be pretty awesome.
Ufortunately you have to pay {2}. This can save a bunch of your cards from the graveyard and you might even return them later if this card doesn't get shattered, but it's a rather expensive investment, though.
Otherwise you could even play around a little with cip/etb effects. But like this it's not too useful.

@Fictionarious: Generally speaking, if an Aura is put onto the battlefield via an effect apart from it being cast, you choose something for it to enchant when it comes into play. You can even enchant permanents with shroud this way, because getting an aura into play this way doesn't count as targeting with a spell/ability.

On topic: The shatter risk is reduced if you leave two mana open at all times, but of course that's a drawback of its own sort.

@TheFoilFencer:
Shards of Alara FAQ:
"If a creature returned to play with unearth would leave play for any reason, it's removed from the game instead -- unless the spell or ability that's causing the creature to leave play is actually trying to remove it from the game! In that case, it succeeds at removing it from the game."

The Sanctum is quite tricky with stealing effects like Act of Treason, Ray of Command, Chamber of Manipulation etc. because you get all the creatures and not their owner. Cold Storage does the same but it wasn't that clear on the card until it got the Oracle errata.

Question - in conjunction with reality acid, how would this work? Any Aura, really. Could you choose a new target for it as it came back?
Also, if I returned this to my hand after I exiled something with it, then played it a second time, could I use it's sacrifice ability to bring back the exiled card?

How does this work with the "unearth" ability?
