It just goes to show you how much power and context have to do with one another. This was printed in an artifact block, and it obviously got absurdly huge, evasion or not. It was well-costed for the fact that it was probably going to be swinging for 20+ a turn, with token producers or similar tricks. Now, of course, it looks overcosted, and we instinctively look for ways to 'bump it up' a little. Even if this was printed in Alara's Esper, it probably would have gotten that bump. I wouldn't call it power creep, of course (because it's not), but it's just that the current environment expects big bomby things.

game finisher in my artifact deck, especially with 4 sword of the meeks in the graveyard!
hmmmm 1 black mana for a 21/29 creature is great (after sacin sword of the meeks for mana)
before that used thopter squadren/similar etc
4/5 it did exactly what it was meant to, didn't think it was overpowerd in any way, you did need to give it trample or use haste to use it effectively, and so easy to burn before anything can be used with it.

So you have 2 Myr Galvanizers, 5 mana myr, a myr propagator, and and this guy. Tap 3 mana myrs and the propagator for the token, then tap one of the two remaining mana myrs for 1 mana and the other one for a myr galvanizer. Rinse and repeat. Now you have infinite mana and infinite tokens, and this guy was getting buffed up the entire time. Bam.

Five mana for 1/1 is despite the fact that it can get big not interesting without further abilities like trample...sigh.
I like the artwork, though.
While we're at it: Creature - Worm Horror much?
(Maybe even Wurm Horror...hard to tell. But it certainly looks like either of it.)

Yeah even with what I would agree is a good pump ability (especially within its block) this should not be a 1/1 for 5 mana.

People really shouldn't care about the fact that it starts out small. If it doesn't end up huge by the time you attack with it, you are doing something wrong.
