The only way to get any real use out of this is with Memory Crystals. If you could have an enchantment that said {1}{W} or {W}: Prevent 3 damage to target creature, would you take it?

A 1 star card if there ever was. If this card let you split that 3 into life gain or life loss it would be easily 2-3 star material. But as it is this card just isn't worth looking into. If its buyback was only 1 or 2 it'd be a little better...but there's just better prevention. And the glory of protection instants is supposed to be the surprise factor...buyback kind of ruins that after the first shot.

Actually, it's not worth 1 star. You can give it half of one! :D

Kiln Fiend makes this card a bit more playable.

Meh.
Not really worth it in a deck or sideboard.

This card is horrible on its own. But it's a card that targets your own creatures for a positive benefit, and has Buyback. This could play nice with the new Heroic mechanic from Theros. Potentially worth it in EDH, if Theros has any commander-quality creatures that have Heroic.

Can you imagine how awesome this card would be at {1}{W}? One can hope they redo it in the future.
