Actually strigen, Hissing miasma was a black version of this! Well, it's the oppisite really. But this came first.

Because in a duel this can be a better card, but in multiplayer Righteous Cause can be amazing (And it is nice to gain life when you attack). It is more than corner cases, that is why they didn't change it.

Better than Righteous Cause if you don't plan on attacking.

A great way to lockdown with Humility or Godhead of Awe. Also, it removes most of the negative aspects of cards like Forbidden Grove or Varchild's War-Riders.

I prefer Urza's Armor myself (prevents direct damage too), but it's also 3 cmc less, so I can't complain.

Just wondering, why hasn't this been errataed to match similar cards such as Righteous Cause?
I see that there is a functional difference there but the situations where it would matter are corner cases, for the most part.

This has been Oraclized to work differently than it did when printed. If you use it as printed and one creature attacks you and two some planeswalker you control you'd get three lives, but like the ruling says you don't get but one with the current Oracled version.

When this was printed there was no planeswalker cards, but there were multiplayer games where one could attack several opponents at the same time. So if player A has this out and player B attacks him with one creature and player C with two, player A would get three lives with the printed version and only one with the Oracled version.

Why such change?

Ajani's Pridemate would get +1/+1 for each attacking creature since life gain from Praye is separated for each attacking creature.
