This little guy has some problems. The issue is her ability and body. As a 2/1, she's likely to trade in combat in the early game, making her ability useless. If her ability is used in a relevant way, it's usually a one shot deal, as any none 0 power creature will be her demise. Would have been more practical as a 1/2, or as a 1/1 for 1.

I think this one is fairly costed. {G} would be far too low.
Also, I think this was a time when they felt Grizzly Bears was still somewhat acceptible common slot. This is a grizzly with -1 toughness that can tap down blocking or blocked fatties.
Sure, this is near useless in constructed. I'd be happy to throw this in a draft deck with a low curve though.

I've had to face down a snake deck built around the Orochi... This wasn't one of the worst cards, but definitely wasn't one I wanted out on the field..

the "creature doesn't untap during it's owners upkeep" ability that most of these orochi cards have put their mana cost way over what they should be. Most of them aren't useful at all because of the price you have to pay for them. Kashi-Tribe Warriors comes to mind.

(Barring regenerating or indestructible creatures) Strictly worse than Thornweald Archer and Ambush Viper.

Combos with Indestructibility to make a more flexible Pacifism.

@HuntingDrake: This is not strictly worse than either of those, as they do not share an ability. Strictly better/worse only refer to cards that are identical to another card, except they have more/less abilites than the other or better/worse statistics. So far, no creature is strictly better than this card, though there are certainly better creatures than this card at this mana cost.

I always thought that the idea of Japanese snake-men was stupid in its execution, and this doesn't help. A snake that puts enemies to sleep would be neat, but the P/T just isn't there. It's completely useless, since your opponent will just chump block with a 1/1 and take a long sleep and that's that.

Maybe if she was more aggressively costed...

@Kryptnyt: uh... I don't think Grizzly Bears was, at any point of the game, a reasonable creature for constructed... Even from very early times we had things like White Knight and Kird Ape already. It's pretty much always been far below the curve in terms of Standard constructed.
