Overcosted and conditional ability on an underpowered creature.

It's laughable that they put a once per turn limitation on something that still would've been overcosted. (see: every shade ever printed)

I mentioned this on one of the other Deceivers, but the point to these was the following: Pay the {1} and attack. Your opponent will likely assume that you can untap it to block with even if the card you saw wasn't a land. That's where the deception is meant to come from at least.
Unfortunately, the cycle simply isn't powerful enough to take advantage of the "your opponent doesn't know if you can play the ability, but you can" thing, which is a shame because it could have been pretty cool.

I now understand why people hate Kamigawa. This card is why I think white is the weakest color as far as common cards go. They get awesome rares and mythics, but if you don't have money screw white.
As for me, G/B Kamigawa is the best. I made a deck with that and a few Ravnica cards (lets face it, some of the best cards are from Ravnica) and its actually very powerful.

A 1/4 fourdrop, with a conditional, temporary, once-per-turn-only +1/+1 if you pay two mana,
and the option to make that three if you want to check if you can even get anything from your two mana investment.
Which would - temporarily - make it a 2/5. For at least six mana in total. Wow.
Wizards must have been harshly deceived if they thought this was good.
It's cards like this that make you understand why so many people disliked Kamigawa:
They whet your appetite through interesting concepts, but realize them with such a tauntingly low power level that looking through those cards make it an all the more frustrating trip of unrealized could-have-been awesomeness.

Kamigawa block was horribly unbalanced. Some fun cards, but then THIS. LOTS AND LOTS OF THIS.
