The idea of instantly shifting this card after blockers are declared appeals to me, but I'm sure the opponent will expect it.

Handy little equipment. The instant speed, colored alternate equip cost is nice, and the card by itself is useful but not broken "cough Cranial Plating cough*

One of the more fun equipments out there because you can pass it around your monsters like a soccer ball. For example, I attack my opponent with my 3/3 (+1/+1) monster that has trample thanks to this puppy so my opponent takes that in lieu of futilely blocking with his 3/3. Then, when my opponent swings back with said 3/3 I can block with my 2 llanowar elves, tap them to equip the helmet to one of them, and unexpectedly kill his 3/3.
It's not the best equipment for sure, it's no sword. But it's fun and has a cheap equip cost to synergize with creatures that take advantage of that. Your opponents will forget about it more often than you'd think, and that +1/+1 boost really makes a difference.
Even without the colored insta-shift, this thing is colorless trample-granting & +1/+1. So it's good for that reason as well.
