Fear was keyworded the first time in 8th Edition, but the first cards using this flavorful evasive wording did already see printing in the Mirage Cycle; the very first one being Ebony Charm.
Well, we likely won't see any new cards printed with Fear these days, since these will using the Intimidate keyword instead. Regarding functionality i like Intimidate more, but regarding flavor Fear was definitely the better one.

@tavaritz
The word "keyworded" means that the name of the ability can be used in rules text.
"Keywords summarize abilities or attributes which are sufficiently complex such that the full explanation would fill the "rules text" area of the card; the smaller, one- or two-word keywords allow cards to be printed with a number of complex abilities, yet still be easily readable by players."
If you look at the history of fear, you will notice that from alpha to 7th edition, the effect says "enchanted creature can't be blocked except by artifact creatures and black creatures", while after 8th edition it says "enchanted creature has fear". This is because they keyworded the ability, deciding it was a common enough ability that most players should be able to know what it was just by seeing the word "fear". Before then, they always wrote out the ability in full.
This is unlike lifelink, vigilance, or regenerate, where the cards lifelink, vig... (see all)

Does anyone else wish the art&name was on a better card? It's just so... atmospheric. Maybe if it was +3/+2...

@Mode: What are you writing about? Fear is keyworded from Alpha card Fear. The ability has been there from the get go.
But what is the Myr doing in this picture?
