idk why this card has such a low rating, especially with the sets that followed after exodus.
this card has "COMBO ME" written all over it:
put this in a white/red deck with Purity and you'll gain 2 life everytime you play a spell and you're opponents will get effed.
or futhermore, combo it with Overblaze and watch the damage flow--people will think twice about playing spells.
Even if you're sick of it being in out in play, disenchant it your next turn. For three mana you'll have dealt yourself 2 damage in the begining 4 turns and, in a multiplayer game, you'll have dished out more damage than you've recoiled--sort-of like a high priced Sizzle in a shallow combo.

OOF! It's Pyrostatic Pillar that hits everything! Would definitely be fun in multiplayer- and paint a huge target on your forehead.

Since it's when a player casts a spell, they will get 2 damage even if you counter it...EVEN IF YOU COUNTER IT!!

The best combo I can think of that uses this card is Sphere of Law and even then it's like a weaker version of Sphere of Law + Manabarbs which isn't that great to begin with. It's fun making combos using obscure cards, but you still want your idea to be at least somewhat strong.

How un-red. I'd somewhat expect this to be played in Blue (because maybe mages could take played spells, counter them, and then redirect damage to their casters).
Not only that, but Red decks are usually filled to the brim with cheap spells. I suppose this is meant to be splashed with another colour...
Or, maybe this can be used as a counter to Storm, Elf, Affinity or Goblin decks... Well, if that's the case, you might want to play Pyrostatic Pillar instead.
Whatever. It's a fine card that could be used in conjunction with Manabarbs for an epicly shut-down game.
