I actually prefer this to Valor Made Real because it's an ability worth keeping around.

You can do worse for one white mana, but at the same time I would think that you can often do better. There are a lot of cards, like Wall of Tears, that can benefit from having this around, but at the same time unless you're loading up on them, Entangler might serve you better, though it costs more.
