The (few) other Merchants were stripped of their occupation and just became Human, Merfolk, etc. This became a pirate because every Talas card became a pirate.

Theft is very much a blue thing, as is islandhome/walk (which many pirates have).
How is someone who lives on a boat in the ocean going to be closer tied to the energies that flow from mountains than those that flow from the sea?

Anyone else find it funny that WotC changed his type from merchant to pirate? Guess ripping people off just didn't enough for this wayward merchant.
