Coolest art for this card, and nicest flavor text. Huzzah!

Looks like an equipment though...

Andrew's Occasional Random Card of the Day #19 - 7/16/2011 - Lava Axe

The random function popped up the Portal Second Age version of this card. After a quick perusal of all one thousand printings, I have to wonder why this art only appeared once. The dynamic energy of the axe being thrown (as seen as recently as the M12 printing) is pretty nice, but it's nothing compared to the epicness of this Portal Second Age axe, dripping with lava over a molten pool in the midst of a dungeon, complete with stalactites and chains. Come on. I can only assume there was some legal snafu preventing them from reprinting this picture.

As a card, I've never quite been able to figure it out. In limited, I might put it in as one of my last few cards, but it seems scary to run two. Although I suppose a deck with four or five could just be brutal. There just seems to be a huge disparity between when it lets you get a huge amount of reach in a game you might have lost, versus when it is completely irr... (see all)

@McThor Totally agree, this is the best version of all the arts. It looks like a gold axe rising from the center of the Earth.
