I won't deny that entwining this card makes for a really powerful play.
But, when would you ever come across a situation where you would NOT entwine???
If I have 5 mana and I cast this to make all my forests 2/2s, they will be tapped and cant' attack. Otherwise, I just untap all forests and its like I never did anything, except I have another sorcery in the graveyard.
Even if I had something like 10 forests and tapped them all then cast this to untap them all, I get a net of 5 mana. I guess that's okay, but how often do you have 10 forests out and would really need to put 15 mana in your mana pool rather than create 10 2/2 creatures? It just seems useless.
Something like tooth and nail has use for each choice AND an even better use for entwining. THis card only seems useful if you entwine it.

This card deserves a higher score. It was a major kill card in green back in the days. Using land fetchers you can easily turn 10+ lands into an army to crush your enemy, with the rest of your nonland creatures joining in. If anything, green never lacks lands!
4.0/5, potential one-shot card, requires the right deck. I give it 4.5 to bring the average up up.

If you have mana ramping cards such as keeper of progenitus, sasaya's essence, or other such cards the untap only effect could be useful for an X spell such as a fireball or supply part of supply and demand

Whats more fearsome and cool than having an army of living trees by your side?

I can tell you exactly when not to Entwine this card.
When you know your opponent has an Eradicate in his hand.

Great card, great design, beaten me many times. Hasn't seen much use in recent years, power creep and all I suppose. Now green is much more keen on a primordial hydra or the like. Still nice as a one-card alpha strike in mana intensive green decks. Few cards could claim such a capability. Especially daunting in mtgo or whenever youre not expecting it. 4.5/5...it is 8 mana, after all.

@nickkom: I can tell you when you won't want to entwine it: You have a lot of lands, a big X spell, and this. Tap all, say, 12 lands you have. That's 12 mana. Now cast this, and tap them again. 12 - 5 + 12 = 19 mana. That's 7 more mana. For just one card.
I will say casting it the "Lands to Creatures" way without entwining is a bit silly, unless you just need a very large creature count for some spell or something.

I run a similar card in my omnath EDH deck which i have gauntlet of power, vernal bloom, caged sun etc... These tactics are what i'm best at.
