Mark Rosewater (lead designer of Unhinged) confirms that this counts counters in order horizontally, vertically, and diagonally, for a maximum total of eight counts of +9/+9.

@Kajillion.
That doesn't work.
That would only put another counter on the same number.

You should have to say "Bingo".

This Hound presents an interesting control game, not unlike the way Hollowborn Barghest can control games. Does your opponent really want to play that Plated Slagwurm? Would that Lightning Bolt help them as much at it would help you? Most importantly, will that Ornithopter be as useful as it ususally is? I think you should do to this guy what the flavor text of Carnivorous Death-Parrot says to do.

You put a counter on the art on the specific converted mana cost of every spell cast. When there are three in a row, it gets +9/+9.

If you manage to fill the entire grid (casting spells with every converted mana cost 0 through 8), this creature will be 73/73.

Play with Skyshroud Cutter, Ornithopter, and Bounty of the Hunt to attack with a 13/13 trampler on Turn 3.
Also fun: evoke and cascade.

Or search Gatherer for the following rules text:

rather than pay mana cost
without paying mana cost
costs less to cast
evoke

in order to "cheat" in the chip counters of your choice.

Ultimate hilarity ensues if you manage to cascade from (for example) Enigma Sphinx to Enlisted Wurm to Deny Reality to Captured Sunlight to Ardent Plea to Distortion Strike, attacking with a 30/29 flying, trampling, unblockable B-I-N-G-O. Of course, you could follow that with, say, Summoner's Pact into Ironshell Beetle for a 58/57. I then suggest evoking Wa... (see all)
