With the right deck this guy is one heck of a rattlesnake. I like playing Necropotence + Spellbook with this guy, and just when my opponents thinks the situation couldn't get any worse, I play Xathrid Demon.

I use this guy in my casual Sedris Reanimator-Control deck. Great when I want to sweep the board for a mere 2BB (most of the time trying to get -4/-4, so that my sedris stays alive :P)

Not that this is a bad creature, but if you already have Necropotence or 40 cards in hand, you should already have something awesome going on. This guy seems a bit superfluous in this situation.

In the right deck this card doubles as both a well-costed fatty and brutal board wipe. If your deck sports black and a consistent decently large hand-size, it's a serious mistake to not include a couple of this chunker.

By a most wonderful of coincidences, this guy's name both refers to the original and recurring Maro mechanic and is a proper Ja panese name.
Maro is a recurring suffix for boys names, meaning something along the lines of 'me' or 'I'.
Transliterated; Kagemaro means approximately "Great One of Shadow".

I have this guy in my deck with gaea's anthem and reliquary tower... and all the others in this cycle. Half the time I have 40+ cards in hand...

He reminds me of that giant clawed maggot in Diablo II...

@axelle: HairlessThoctar meant that it was a coincidence that Wizards could print a card with the word "Maro" in it while still creating a correct Ja panese name.
For those that don't know, the Maro mechanic (named for lead designer Mark Rosewater) is a tradition where every creature that references hand size has the word Maro in its name. Just search 'maro' in gatherer and you'll see it.
