No you can't, it's discard, not sacrifice. You can't discard a card that is not in your hand.

What I like about this shinen is you can block with it to kill one thing then use the ability to discard it and grant a second creature first strike in the middle of combat to kill off your opponents creatures.

A 2/1 first striker for three is not bad and on curve. The ability to use it as a combat trick and save your creature in a creature trade situation is also not bad.
I think this card is underrated because both options are good. If you see your opponent is playing red or black, don't summon it and instead channel it as a combat trick.
