When you splice spell A onto Spell B, the final color is that of B.
i.e., you can kill a prot black creature with Horobi's Whisper if you splice onto a non-red spell.

One of the best spliceable cards, and it just so happens to have one of the cleverest designs as well.
Kudos, Wizards.

@ Gradius Fox, its so you wont throw it in a blue deck or red deck, with no swamps, just to splice it, as the splice is just exiling your graveyard.

@DacenOctavio:
That's not an intervening if clause. It only checks once.

This rocks if you're not concerned about your graveyard. It's effectively a free kill.
Nonblack clause continues to upset me however.

A repetable Terror, pardon, Doom Blade is always useful. Especially if it costs actually to play! One of the best splice card!

I'm sure the intervening "if" clause was there to keep people from splicing this in decks that have no swamps. However, nothing stops you from using something like Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth or Ravnica Shocklands to fix that.

I'd rather use rend flesh, but just barely...

Whenever I see this card, I always imagine the spirits whispering,
