The reason they went with this, rather than reprint the old Slowlands, was because the old ones have a name that is too specific to the setting of Tempest. If you notice, nowadays they tend to give dual-lands (and tri-lands) more generic names so they can reprint them in relevant sets. The Shocklands are a good example of this, as a Hallowed Fountain could probably be found in planes other than Ravnica.

It's a double land that comes into play untapped so you can use it right away no matter what, and if you want it to untap next turn you can just tap it for colorless mana. This is probably more useful then you think.
